Print Liberation The Screen Printing Primer
——————————————————————————————————
A rather lovely thing about running a blog is that people from all over the place get in touch out of the blue to tell you about projects they’re working on. And we reckon we’ve been pretty lucky so far, as nearly all the stuff that’s been sent our way has been dead interesting. One such project is the new book coming up from the Print Liberation studio in Philadelphia. It’s a primer on how to start screen printing using really basic elements, and is written by Nick Paparone & Jamie Dillon from the studio, in collaboration with Luren Jenison, with illustrations by Tim Gough. It looks fantastic – we can’t wait to get our hands on a copy.Print Liberation is published on July 25, by F+W Publications, the kids behind How, ID and Print magazines. -aisleone.com

This guide strikes a very nice balance. It has just enough information without being overwhelming, and it is also well-designed for more inspiration. I am a firm believer that craft books need to have lots of big color photographs, because a lot of the time seeing makes more sense than reading, when you are learning about making. And those are your verbs for today.

We just got a bunch of copies of “Print Liberation – The Screen Printing Primer” in the store today! This is by far the best screen printing tutorial book we’ve seen to hit the market.

Print Liberation is a nice-looking basic how-to guide for screen printing without the need for too much fancy equipment. All books should have action movie trailers like this-drawn.ca Print Liberation Book Trailer: Witness Print Liberation’s totally wacko trailer for their book The Screen Printing Primer which will show you how to start screen printing today using the most basic elements—a screen, some emulsion in a bucket, artwork, a light source and a sink. It’s also worth noting, since he reps Philly, that Ricky Oyola skated to the same Metallica song in Eastern Exposure 3. -urban outfitters

this is a great book for people starting out in screen printing. not only informative but also fun to look at.

I read all the reviews and almost didn’t buy this book. I’m limited to kindle editions as I’m out of the country. So, I bought a less expensive manual first, was completely depressed by it’s lack of anything worthwhile, and then sprung for this one. Boy did it turn my frown upside down. I laughed out loud…at a screen printing manual. It was informative, instructive and I’m absolutely relieved I decided to purchase. I think all the not-so-fantastic reviews are from people who’ve screen printed before. This book is about the basics. If you’ve printed before, you don’t need it…except for the exceptional humor. You’ll find everything you need to know to get started, but where you go from there is up to you. Since I am a complete beginner, I feel like (after reading the whole book) I’ve stepped from the darkness into the light.

This book includes all the information you need to try some basic screen printing. The instructions are detailed enough to lead a complete novice through the screen printing process without being redundant or uninteresting. The book also has some great graphics and covers some valuable information on screen printing history and important figures in its development.
Definitely the perfect source if you are just getting started with screen printing – this book has it all!

I love this book.. better than the other screen print books. Visual aid really helps me. I didn’t regret buying this.

This book is a great primer on screen printing! It is kind of like “T-shirts for Fun & Profit”-lite. This book is particularly useful for the weekend warrior or part-time entrepreneur. The step-by-step examples are terrific and clearly explained. As soon as I paged through it I came up with some ideas.

I’m having a really hard time figuring out what body part I would have given up twelve years ago to have had this book when I taught myself to screen print. It’s typical to say “arm” or “leg” or “left testicle”, but I think if I really had to pick one I would ultimately have to go with something more major because that’s just how awesome this book is. So, maybe the left hemisphere of my brain?

This is by far the BEST book I have ever come across on the art of screen printing. Before this the only books I had seen were all printed in the late seventies and were poorly written and the instructional illustrations left many things to be desired. Mostly, resolution, because the images were all big black Rorschach Test looking blots of pixels. The term “piss poor” comes to mind.

Print Liberation: The Screen Printing Primer, however, is chock full of high resolution color photos. It also provides the budding screen printer with a brief history of the art as well as a detailed list of tools you’ll need and descriptions for what each tool will do for you. It’s easily the most comprehensive how to screen print book on the market today.
